Director/Head Teacher
Rebecca Halliday
Rebecca has been operating Riverbend Community School for 10 years. Her dream has been to provide an independent school in our community that provides high quality education that engages, inspires, feels safe with a heavy focus on literacy. She's dedicated to helping shift the conversation around best practices when it comes to teaching reading and bring the science of reading to life in every classroom for every child!

Educational Assistant/ Program Manager
Kim Carey
Kim is a dynamic and loving educator who makes all students feel at ease, comfortable, and loved. She's a natural nurturer and absolute asset to the school. Her role reaches far beyond that of helper and is an integral part of coordinating lessons and activities.

Teacher
Karena Bowman
With over 25 years of extensive teaching experience across both public and private schools, Karena brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise. Passionate about the transformative power of the Arts in Education, Karena has dedicated much of her career to integrating drama, creativity and inquiry into the learning process.
Her most recent role was as a Teacher and Vice-Principal at Murrayville Academy in British Columbia, where she honed her leadership skills and developed a deep understanding of educational management. While living in B.C., she also developed a strong interest in outdoor and nature based education and she is committed to enriching our students' learning experiences. Additionally, Karena has a strong foundation in early childhood education, having taught Kindergarten for many years, and is an advocate for inquiry-based learning, continually pursuing professional development to refine her approach. We are incredibly fortunate to have such a passionate and experienced educator guiding our inquiry and Kindergarten programs.

Art and PE Teacher
Heather Sproat
Heather holds a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts and is a practicing ceramic artist. She has extensive experience teaching art workshops as well as community programs with NBCC. With a background in childcare, she enjoys fostering creativity in both the arts and physical education, bringing an engaging and imaginative approach to her teaching.
